Implementation of GST HSN Validation in E-Way Bill from 1st February 2024

According to the latest GST E-Way Bill Advisory, the e-way bill system will incorporate HSN validation effective February 1st February 2024, specifically targeting business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-export (B2E) transactions. The validation will introduce a 6-digit HSN code for businesses with an Annual Aggregate Turnover exceeding Rs. 5 Crores and a 4-digit HSN for turnovers up to Rs. 5 crores.

E-Way Bill Generation to Require E-Invoice

As per Central Tax Notification No. 78/2020 dated 15th October 2020, businesses with an Annual Aggregate Turnover (AATO) exceeding Rs. 5 crore must provide a minimum 6-digit HSN code for all B2B and export transactions. For businesses with an AATO of less than Rs. 5 crore, a minimum 4-digit HSN code is mandatory.

This validation implementation will take effect in the e-way bill system on February 2024. Therefore, businesses are strongly advised to adapt their systems accordingly and input 4–6 digit HSN codes when generating e-way bills through web and API systems starting on February 1st, 2024.
